Stupid Girl

I think I stole this one from Zombie, sorry, it sat on the desktop so long (probably a day) that I forgot where I got it. But talk about foolish child, not twelve inches from her super-serious face is CCCP. Hello? Hon, CCCP is the best argument ever against your socialist pipe dream. The Soviet Union was a failure. Not because of the people, not because of resources, because of the system. It just doesn't work, kid.

Anyway, writing this I realize it's meaningless. This is a kid, really. She'll get better. Even in San Francisco, with time, she'll grow up. And, worst case scenario: she ends up an old kook. Not so bad. But just writing out "Stupid Girl" I realized who I really wanted to comment on: Deborah Jeane Palfrey, who wrote, in her suicide note, "Also, you must comprehend that there was no other way out, i.e., 'exit strategy,' other than the one I have chosen here,"

Deborah, Deborah, Deborah. There were in fact thousands of paths open to you. And only one of them went off the cliff. Which one, duh, you chose. Man, what is wrong with people that they are so afraid of adversity that they'd rather end their lives than to see what might happen next? Fact is, Deborah was so afraid of the prospect of living without prosperity that won't ever know what the rest of her life might have been.

Step Away From the Plant

Ha! I love it. The march towards mankind being treated as an undesirable byproduct, a toxin really, of the world continues:

A few years ago the Swiss added to their national constitution a provision requiring "account to be taken of the dignity of creation when handling animals, plants and other organisms." No one knew exactly what it meant, so they asked the Swiss Federal Ethics Committee on Non-Human Biotechnology to figure it out. The resulting report, "The Dignity of Living Beings with Regard to Plants," is enough to short circuit the brain.

A "clear majority" of the panel adopted what it called a "biocentric" moral view, meaning that "living organisms should be considered morally for their own sake because they are alive." Thus, the panel determined that we cannot claim "absolute ownership" over plants and, moreover, that "individual plants have an inherent worth." This means that "we may not use them just as we please, even if the plant community is not in danger, or if our actions do not endanger the species, or if we are not acting arbitrarily."

Soon something like this will have to be adopted in the US. Then it's only a matter of time before some metrosexual college professor in a sweater initiates a class action lawsuit on behalf of some patch of milkweed in his neighbor's yard.

Face it folks, this stuff will continue to the point where our status sits just under that of dental floss.

I don't doubt "emotional breakage", in fact, I'd call it a good start. Now it's up to Austria to continue along those lines.

OK, you've seen this everywhere. Now you've seen it here too:

The Earth's temperature may stay roughly the same for a decade, as natural climate cycles enter a cooling phase, scientists have predicted.

A new computer model developed by German researchers, reported in the journal Nature, suggests the cooling will counter greenhouse warming....

"Bottom line," say all the global warming specialists in the world, in unison, "You'll just have to trust us on this and keep giving us grants until retirement."

When the last cooling was reported, I knew this was coming. Basically, the climate models predicted catastrophe, but nature started zigging in the other direction, so the models were modified to predict a delayed catastrophe.

I'm Late With This...

A short while back I wrote about Staff Sgt. Christopher S. Frost, 24, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, who was killed when an Iraqi Mi-17 helicopter crashed in a dust storm March 3, 2008.

Onion Story Escape

Somebody well versed in the internet-tube should investigate how and why Onion articles keep escaping the site and turning into real life. How else to we get stories of Ministers who don't believe in Christ? Gretta Vosper heads West Hill United Church in Toronto:

Though an ordained minister, she does not like the title of reverend. It is one of those symbols that hold the church back from breaking into the future -- to a time "when the label Christian won't even exist" and the Church will be freed of the burdens of the past. To balance out those symbols of the past inside West Hill, there is a giant, non-religious rainbow tapestry just behind the altar and multi-coloured streamers hang from the ceiling.....

... In With or Without God, her book that was formally launched this week, she writes that Jesus was a "Middle Eastern peasant with a few charismatic gifts and a great posthumous marketing team."

Wha? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not at all bothered by her unbelief, some of my best friends, and all that, but I am way perplexed as to why she'd want to lead a church.

It's like, ok, I want to become a dentist but I'd rather not fix teeth. In fact, I'd rather not even look into patients mouths. What I'd like to do is make coffee drinks, and perhaps sell a few small food items on the side. My dental office would have outdoor tables for when the weather's nice and we'd offer free internet access. We'd call my dental assistants baristas and train them on the espresso machine. Yeah, I think I'll call it Brite Smile Dental Solutions. Next step would be to design a logo; maybe something with a tooth in it.

Obama's Other Problem

To my mind, Obama's other friend, Bill Ayers, is more disreputable than Jeremiah Wright. He's not just a socialist, not just a radical, he's a terrorist. Maybe an inactive terrorist, but still, he hasn't changed from the bomber he was in the sixties:

"We did many things that were wrong; I have a lot of regrets for many of the things that happened," he said. Does he regret siding with a brutal communist regime against America? "Certainly, the death of the three, my girlfriend and two other close, close friends, was a disaster." In other words, he regrets that his friends accidentally died while building a bomb, not that they were building a bomb in the first place.

Mr. Ayers continues: "Certainly flirting with the idea of terrorism was off the tracks and a mistake. The fact that we never executed that flirtation is important and significant and I think conveniently forgotten, but we never did." In fact, Mr. Ayers and his cohorts did set off a bomb at the Pentagon. In his book, he writes: "It turns out that we blew up a bathroom and, quite by accident, water plunged below and knocked out their computers for a time, disrupting the air war and sending me into deepening shades of delight." In those four little words, "disrupting the air war," there is the dark prospect of American soldiers in jeopardy.

The book signing this article was about just happened to be scheduled the week after 9-11-2001. What timing. Ayers claim that they never engaged in terrorism was prompted by the 9-11 events, I'm sure. And maybe in his mind it wasn't terrorism. Me, I call planting bombs terrorism.
