Frat Party

There was no guile in Thelma the Goat, so it never occurred to
her that she was the joke that had everyone so happy. What they
could never understand was that had she been aware of the joke,
she wouldn't have changed a thing. That was just Thelma.
Thelma, the happy goat.

Technology in Iran

I check Fars news from time to time just to see if they've started photoshopping missiles again. I was checking this morning when I came across this image. My Persian is a little rusty but it appears that the Iranians have developed a robot that can evaluate a chessboard in mid play and get in the way if it appears that the Zionist is winning. "Oh, there's that darned robot again, we'll have to call it a draw. Shame too, I was just about to unleash hell upon your bishop."

Who Is to Blame?

I'm sure you've heard tell of the coconut monkey trap. You tether a hollowed-out coconut with a treat inside. The monkey reaches in to grab the pretty but his fist is too big to exit the hole. So he is captured because he is unwilling to let go of his prize.

Stupid monkeys. Sometimes the apple doesn't fall far from the evolutionary tree:

Hostess Brands CEO said Wednesday the company will liquidate unless striking workers return to the job by the end of the day on Thursday.

"We simply do not have the financial resources to survive an ongoing national strike," Greg Rayburn said in a statement.

Workers are protesting a contract imposed by a bankruptcy court. The bakers union has called the contract "outrageous."

A liquidation would result in more than 18,000 workers losing their jobs...

It may be some sort of mob dynamic that allows highly paid workers to throw everything away rather than accept a setback. They have a clear choice: accept an 8% pay cut, and work, or demand a wage that kills the company and enter unemployment in this unstable economy.

Why is there even 5 minutes thought wasted on this choice? It doesn't help that unemployment and food stamps beckon on the one side, and living with a two inch smaller plasma TV awaits on the other. Hmmm, what to do?

I'm not betting on a happy ending.

So, as Homer Simpson would say, "Stupid monkeys."

In other greedy news: Did you see that Jesse Jackson Jr. (1%) refuses to leave congress unless he gets his disability pay approved? His particular handicap seems to be that he likes to drink and steal money. Poor guy. I wish him luck. This hereditary condition has devastated his life and I can only hope that our tax dollars can do something to soothe his tortured soul.

Have I Done This One Already?

What are you wearing to the eschaton?

The Obama Kitchen

Part of the creation of Heaven on Earth: a popular, less cluttered, look in the kitchen.

Re: Heaven on Earth - A professor at Florida A&M University, Barbara A. Thompson, has written a book - The Gospel According to Apostle Barack: In Search of a More Perfect Political Union as "Heaven Here on Earth"

Then, as I began to contemplate ways to assist Barack in his 2012 re-election bid something miraculous happened. I felt God’s (His) Spirit beckoning me in my dreams at night. Listening, cautiously, I learned that Jesus walked the earth to create a more civilized society, Martin (Luther King) walked the earth to create a more justified society, but, Apostle Barack, the name he was called in my dreams, would walk the earth to create a more equalized society, for the middle class and working poor. Apostle Barack, the next young leader with a new cause, had been taken to the mountaintop and allowed to see over the other side. He had the answers to unlock the kingdom of “heaven here on earth” for his followers. The answers were repeated - over and over - in speeches Barack had made from his presidential announcement to his inaugural address. Those speeches or his teachings contained the answers to the middle class and working poor people living in a “heaven here on earth.” For when the answers were unlocked and enacted, Apostle Barack’s vision of America would be realized.

Yes! She's saying that the President is immanentizing the eschaton! I love any excuse to use that phrase. Apparently the eschaton includes lots of ramen and day old bread this time around.

Baseballs make people stupid.

Petraeus Scandal

From left to right, that's Natalie, the "unstable" twin (an adjective
that doesn't seem quite fair, all things considered), Petraeus, Jill's
husband Dr. Joe Schmoe, Jill herself, and Holly Petraeus. (Note the
 Michaele Salahi head-tilt employed by Jill-1 and Jill-2. It's
de rigueur among ladies who schmooze with the powerful.)

On the drive home I heard about some FBI guy who was obsessed and e-mailing shirtless pictures of himself. And a Justice Department who knew about this circus and didn't alert the President. And a custody battle, a husband facing bankruptcy, and possibly the involvement of a Nigerian schoolgirl's invention to convert urine into electricity. (but sadly we can't get the marvelous machine to market unless you send her father, the prince, your bank routing numbers)

Anyway, I decided to figure this thing out. In furtherance of that pursuit, I came across the above picture and caption. (here) OK, I thought, if the internet doesn't want to help, I quit.

I'll rejoin this story when one of the main characters wakes up one morning to find that he/she has traded bodies with his/her teenage son. And if the adult (in a teen body) doesn't have to navigate the minefields of a public high school and take a social studies test, I may not follow the story even then.

It's just not worth the effort.

(Oh, I just thought... I also might delve back into it if the General somehow gets possession of a time machine and goes back in time to either sort out the whole mistress/email/obsessed-FBI-guy thing, or save the consulate at Benghazi, or kill Hitler. I've always been a sucker for time travel, especially when obsessed FBI guys are involved.)

Obamacare Device for Detection of Medical Emergencies

Remember this one? "I don't want them to be punished with a baby."

Sorta off topic, sorta on - On MSNBC's Melissa Harris-Perry Show:

Host Harris-Perry was discussing with her guests the results of Tuesday's election by demographic group.

When she got her chance to comment, [Nancy] Giles said, "It's been weird to watch white people report on this."

"You know when you just showed that graph of the decline in the numbers [of whites]," she continued, "I thought, 'Maybe that's why they're trying to eliminate all these abortions and stuff. They're trying to build up the race."

Which is entirely backwards. Margret Sanger was a eugenicist, who founded Planned Parenthood in order to help control the spread of what she considered inferior races.

"Ya, but today it's different,"? No, today Planned Parenthood focuses on the poor urban population, and most aborted babies are either Black or Hispanic. Here's a graph for you Ms Giles.

Social conservatives want to limit or abolish abortion because it kills babies. That most of them are Black or Hispanic doesn't enter into the equation. And it's a little foolish to think that a ban on abortion would increase the white population. Quite the opposite is true.

Bowling Green State

Seems my alma mater (as far as you know) is trying to pull a fast one. The Onion reports:

BOWLING GREEN, OH—Saying they could easily take advantage of the false assertion until someone calls them out on it, administrators at Bowling Green State University plan to start claiming Emmy Award–winning actor Christopher Lloyd as an alumnus, sources confirmed Friday. “Prestigious alumni can be a powerful recruitment tool, and seriously, who’s going to check to see whether he actually went to school here?” dean of admissions Karl Schuller reportedly said at a meeting of the university’s board of regents...
