Hard Times

It seems the NYT needs to cut costs:

Beginning Monday, the Times "will reduce the width of its pages by an inch and a half," to a 12-inch standard, the paper declared.

"The move will cut newsprint expenses and, in some printing press locations, will make special configurations unnecessary. Slight modifications in design will preserve the look and texture of The Times, with all existing features and sections, and" -- it admitted at the end -- "somewhat fewer words per page."

"Luckily," said Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr., "we were able to achieve the space savings by eliminating anything resembling good news from Iraq."

Get that Money

"Declaring a new direction in energy policy, the House on Saturday approved $16 billion in taxes on oil companies..."

Whew, good news, at least it won't be coming out of our pockets.

Oh man, I wanted Obama to do better than this. I mean, it wouldn't hurt to have another Ralph Nader in the mix, pulling votes away from the Hillinator. But Barack just drew his largest crowd so far..... in Pakistan.

So, it looks like Hillary will be the nominee. Who else? Edwards? Is to laugh. Hey, maybe Barack can come up with a plan to fix social security, or maybe a sure fire way to make the climate stop changing, or maybe he knows some really good card tricks. Anything. I just don't want another Clinton behind the wheel.

I was going to point out the dishonest headline in this WaPo article but further down I found real comedy. The headline:

House Forms Special Panel Over Alleged Stolen Vote - GOP Assails Decision on Food Aid for Immigrants

And of course, the missing word is "Illegal". The vote concerned food aid to illegal immigrants. (to their credit?, the distinction was made later in the article; 8 paragraphs in)

Anyway, the comedy. With congressional approval ratings at 14%, the lowest ever, this was Nancy Pelosi's explanation:

[she] accused Republicans of blatant obstructionism. "They've just been deluged by the success of the Democrats on behalf of the American people," she said.

Ha! Silly Nancy. Still, she has reason to be optimistic; the Washington Post is obviously still a big supporter.

Funny Liberals

LGF has the video of that soldier getting, not shouted down, it was more of an attempted bullying, at the yearly kos convention. I only mention it because in the Kos supplied video they cut out the statements and questions from the soldier; they just drop the audio. Then it comes back on and after the kos speaker on the panel goes all uberbutch and "you want me to come down there..." then Wesley Clark says how "we support everyone's right to speak...." Hahahahahaha! And we support our right to cut the audio to things we don't want to hear.

Anyway, a little silly isn't it? Not letting a man speak because he's wearing the uniform that represents the sacrifice that was made in order to secure your right to speak? I know, it's the principle, isn't it Markos?
