What does NASA stand for? North American Social Analysts?

When I was a boy they built rocket ships and made movies so realistic you would swear that there were actual astronauts on the moon. Now it seems they're branching out. They've commissioned a study on how we're going to collapse into the movie Mad Max:

In unequal societies, researchers said, "collapse is difficult to avoid.... Elites grow and consume too much, resulting in a famine among Commoners that eventually causes the collapse of society."

As limited resources plague the working class, the wealthy, insulated from the problem, "continue consuming unequally" and exacerbate the issue, the study said.

Meanwhile, resources continue to be used up, even by the technologies designed to preserve them. For instance, "an increase in vehicle fuel efficiency technology tends to enable increased per capita vehicle miles driven, heavier cars, and higher average speeds, which then negate the gains from the increased fuel-efficiency," the study said.

The researchers used what they termed a Human And Nature DYnamical (HANDY) formula to reach their conclusions. The formula uses factors such as birth rates, resources, and income classes to create a mathematical equation to project outcomes.

 Ah, they made up a formula to arrive at the same conclusion that Thomas Malthus did back in 1798. And the "formula" of course means they're not the same old tired crop of Malthusians that the world has seen in every generation since 1798. These are Malthusians with a formula!

But that's not what struck me when I read about this study. What struck me was that Obama has lately been talking about income inequality. So he brings it up and, well what do you know, here's a study that says he's right.  And it's brought to you by the same people who said he's right about catastrophic global warming.

And... neither of those subjects have anything to do with building rocket ships.

It looks to me like an administration that thinks nothing of using our tax dollars to shape our thinking.  They use the IRS to hinder their political enemies. They use the EPA to hobble industry,  keep energy expensive, and the recession going. They use the Labor Department to reward political contributors. They use the NSA to spy on absolutely everyone. And they use the National Park Service to make people miserable in furtherance of a political point. 

It is not the Administration's government, it's our government.
