And I was only worried about getting cut with the blades.
Hm...
Doesn't some of the muzzle velocity of the bullet come from a stationary holder's resistance to the recoil? It would seem that the recoil of the copter from firing the shot would detract from the muzzle velocity, resulting in greater drop of the bullet per distance traveled.
So for accuracy, you'd have to get close, alerting the burglar to your defense system. Then there's also that clunky aiming problem, so, even closer.
Creates more problems than it solves, I think. Like 3D-printed guns that can't really be used more than once.
Lumberbrudi, most of the resistance to recoil comes from the mass of the gun. If the gun weight is 100 times the bullet weight - and I think that would be a very lightweight gun - then the maximum loss of muzzle velocity from a lightly held gun would be 1%. That's not going to noticeably affect the trajectory except at extreme long range.
A bigger problem is that a small drone is not a stable shooting platform. The drone and the muzzle of the gun will be dancing around all the time. That does rule out accurate long-range shooting.
Per Newton's Third Law, wouldn't an additional firearm mounted on the drone shooting an identical load in the opposite direction at precisely the same moment not only solve the recoil problem, but also potentially provide the additional benefit of avoiding a costly prosecution of the drone operator as well?
Probably best to just add guns pointing all around, and possibly rotating as well.
Perfect RC toy? Probably not, but it will do until we can get the flame throwers figured out.
Turns out the young man that built that thing has been arrested, on charges unrelated to the drone:
