On a Lighter Note

It’s rare to meet a fan of The Simpsons who doesn’t have a hysterical Milhouse quote at the ready. “The ‘House” (as he has referred to himself) is the animated embodiment of the public’s love affair with the perennial underdog. Take our Milhouse quiz and show how much you know about one of the most comically tormented characters in television history.

(I'm still way busy, chopping trees and taking names, but really, I don't need to say much today -- Sarah Palin said it all last night)
***Update: almost forgot:

Guess I'm getting rusty.

Mrs Palin Goes to Washington

Just caught the Governor's speech. Whew! I think that this is the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal..... Well, no, I suppose the earth and the climate are bigger than we are. But this is the moment when we continued to know that.

You go Sarah. She is an outsider and she's inspiring. She named he kids after a razor blade, a drug company, a tree, an airplane, and a branch of mathematics. (Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig) You won't ever catch her whining over the price of arugula; if she needs arugula, she'll shoot some, field dress it, and haul it home for supper. My guess is, the big O couldn't even sneak up on arugula.

I'm imagining somewhere in Ohio, a bottle of evian is being thrown across the room.

You Go Newt

Can't help myself, I just replaying this.

Best part: Starting the question out with "but to be fair," which, translated means, "to be entirely unfair and, in fact, completely dishonest." Second best part: the Democrat inquisitor's mouth contortion when Newt is finished with his answer.

The ass-clown Olbermann then says Newt "left some openings there" meaning, "I can spin this some when we come back, and Newt isn't there to respond." I was watching this when it happened and I don't remember much of a rebuttal from Mathews' estranged girlfriend. I know what I didn't hear; I didn't hear Bubbleboy list anything comparable that Obama has done. Talk and write, that's about the book on BO.

Sorry for light blogging, been working, and now I'm going back out. There's rumors of saplings East of here and I like to nip these things in the bud. I'm always in favor of bud-nipping.

Say Hello to My Little Fren

(you may have to clickbiggen)

Get Your Net Spongebob

Pretty cool:

True Story, Possibly

Two guys are walking through the woods and come across this big deep
hole.

"Wow...that looks deep."

"Sure does... toss a few pebbles in there and see how deep it is."

They pick up a few pebbles and throw them in and wait... no noise.

"Jeeez. That is REALLY deep... here.. throw one of these great big rocks
down there. Those should make a noise."

They pick up a couple football-sized rocks and toss them into the hole
and wait... and wait. Nothing.

They look at each other in amazement. One gets a determined look on his
face and says, "Hey...over here in the weeds, there's a
railroad tie. Help me carry it over here. When we toss THAT sucker in,
it's GOTTA make some noise."

The two men drag the heavy tie over to the hole and heave it in. Not a
sound comes from the hole.

Suddenly, out of the nearby woods, a sheep appears, running like the
wind. It rushes toward the two men, then right past them,
running as fast as it's legs will carry it. Suddenly it leaps in the air
and into the hole.

The two men are astonished with what they've just seen...
Then, out of the woods comes a farmer who spots the men and ambles over.

Hey... you two guys seen my sheep out here?

You bet we did! Craziest thing I ever seen! It came running like crazy
and just jumped into this hole!

Nah, says the farmer, That couldn't have been MY sheep. My sheep was
chained to a railroad tie.

The Sharks Circle

I'm trying to avoid the MSM until they get over their initial pregnant-teenager frenzy. I'm a little amazed that the same line is being used over and over; something like, "of course we shouldn't bring the children of candidates into this, but people are going to talk and therefore....." And then they bring the child into it.

Can it possibly be that they think conservatives are straitlaced prudes who will put Sarah Palin on the shunned-list because her family is made up of humans who are subject to all the conditions that come with being human? (I'm reminded of an in-your-face-whitey rap song from long ago in which the artist expressed disdain for the (white) establishment. And part of the rant included an obscene reference to John Wayne; as if it was a stab to the heart of the racist bastards. I couldn't help but clutch my chest and laugh every time I heard the line.)

Well no, MSM. We aren't all gasping clutching our chests at this news. If it holds interest at all, it's because we're seeing, again, how simple, and silly, you are in your view of us.

Also, what this post started out about: The amazing Jonah Goldberg, who has a brain the size of Houston, reminds us:

Am I crazy, or did the press spend 16 years congratulating itself over how it left president's kids alone? I guess Sarah Palin doesn't qualify for that kind of decency yet.

One Thing For Sure

Sarah Palin makes Joe Biden look like Ernest Borgnine. Well, ok, most of us make Joe Biden look like Ernest Borgnine. But she makes him look like Ernest Borgnine on a Monday morning.

Islamophobia

Naomi Wolfe, concerned that we boorish westerners not be bigoted, ill-informed Islamophobes:

Ideological battles are often waged with women's bodies as their emblems, and Western Islamophobia is no exception........

But are we in the West radically misinterpreting Muslim sexual mores, particularly the meaning to many Muslim women of being veiled or wearing the chador? And are we blind to our own markers of the oppression and control of women?

The West interprets veiling as repression of women and suppression of their sexuality. But when I travelled in Muslim countries and was invited to join a discussion in women-only settings within Muslim homes, I learned that Muslim attitudes toward women's appearance and sexuality are not rooted in repression, but in a strong sense of public versus private, of what is due to God and what is due to one's husband. It is not that Islam suppresses sexuality, but that it embodies a strongly developed sense of its appropriate channelling - toward marriage, the bonds that sustain family life, and the attachment that secures a home.

And in Islamabad, five girls concerned that the mud is cutting off their last breaths:
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A Pakistani lawmaker defended a decision by northwestern tribesmen to bury five women alive because they wanted to choose their own husbands, telling stunned members of Parliament to spare him their outrage.

"These are centuries-old traditions, and I will continue to defend them," Israr Ullah Zehri, who represents Baluchistan province, told The Associated Press Saturday.

"Only those who indulge in immoral acts should be afraid."

The women, three of whom were teenagers, were first shot and then thrown into a ditch.

They were still breathing as mud was shoveled over their bodies, according to media reports, which said their only "crime" was that they wished to marry men of their own choosing.

Gustav Fizzles

It's a good thing Gustav isn't ravaging New Orleans; half the nation's newsmen would be lost. Most of the population has left, only to be replaced by news teams.

So everything is looking good. "Pleasantly surprised" is how one engineer described the situation in New Orleans. The only loser: Sean Penn. Hero status: on hold.
