Look at the Guy, Who Cares What He Thinks?

The man was born with a rugged face, maybe one that wouldn't look out of
place out in the woods with a chainsaw; but somehow he's managed to cultivate
a look that says, "Come to me if you need advice on scented candles or peppermint
enemas, otherwise, I haven't a clue as to what this world is about." The pretend
Native-American heritage is just icing on his already too sugary cake.

Melancholy in the wind
Man, the wind here today could blow your lips off. A little chill
too, but at least there was some sun. I had to meet an appraiser at
my mom's house to value things for the estate. What with one thing
and another, I ended spending the day there. Which was ok because
I needed time to go through papers and locate the deed etc.
The melancholy was all my doing. After I'd found the documents I
needed, I looked through the memory boxes. Lots of old pictures,
report cards, plaster hand-prints, the things we save; many many
boxes. And lots of memories came back, of vacations, confirmations,
vaccinations.. lots. I found the tassel from my high school graduation,
and I remembered that fiddling with it is what caused me to walk into
a free standing hand rail on my way backstage. Bam, full speed, right
into it, causing my huevos to end up in my back pockets. Youch it hurt,
but I couldn't acknowledge the pain because there were classmates all
around. So I walked up to get my diploma taking little bitty steps, and
I hoped that the principal didn't think my watery eyes were caused by
sadness at leaving his school.
Ah, the memories.

"Fatherhood"
From News of the Weird. I guess if you're going to lie, lie big:
After five years of the New Mexico government always accepting Viola Trevino's child support claims against Steve Barreras (over the vasectomied Barreras' objections), a court in Albuquerque finally ruled in December that the child never existed. The judge concluded that Trevino had lied numerous times and had forged DNA evidence, birth certificates, and other documents and that Barreras had been unjustly forced to pay $20,000 in support, even though Trevino had never publicly produced the child. In December, having run out of excuses, Trevino borrowed a little girl from a stranger on the street and took her into the courtroom to "be" her and Barreras' daughter (but the stranger followed Trevino inside and exposed the ruse). Gov. Bill Richardson ordered an investigation as to how so many state officials had been hoaxed for so long. [The New Mexican-AP, 12-13-04]
The real story will be when this woman appeals and some court reinstates the payments. I wonder what university the "kid" will be attending.

Those wacky penguins again
From Ananova:

Zoo tempts gay penguins to go straight
A German zoo has imported four female penguins from Sweden in an effort to tempt its gay penguins to go straight.
Penguins at Bremerhaven Zoo in Bremen /Europics
The four Swedish females were dispatched to the Bremerhaven Zoo in Bremen after it was found that three of the zoo's five penguin pairs were homosexual.
Keepers at the zoo ordered DNA tests to be carried out on the penguins after they had been mating for years without producing any chicks.
It was only then they realised that six of the birds were living in homosexual partnerships.
Director Heike Kueck said that the zoo hoped to see some baby penguins in the coming months.
She said that the birds had been mating for years and one couple even adopted a stone that they protected like an egg.
Kueck said that the project has the support of the European Endangered Species Programme because the penguins, which are native to South America, are an endangered species.
A biologist will be on hand to monitor the experiment.
But introducing the Bremerhaven penguins to their new Swedish friends may not be as successful as hoped after earlier experiments revealed great difficulties in separating homosexual couples.
In case they show no interest, the zoo has also flown in two new male penguins "so that the ladies don't miss out altogether", Kueck added.
YUPDATE:
BERLIN (Reuters) - A plan by a German zoo to test the sexual appetites of a group of suspected homosexual penguins has sparked outrage among gay and lesbian groups, who fear zookeepers might force them to turn straight.
"All sorts of gay and lesbian associations have been e-mailing and calling in to protest," said a spokesman for the zoo.....
Force the Swedish females on them? Puhleeeeese

Cat Lick Fever

Want a puddy tat to clean your monitor from the inside?
Save it to My Pictures and use it as a screensaver or background.
But be warned, the soundtrack will have you climbing the walls
after two minutes. Maybe this is a good background to put on
*other* people's computers.

Iraqi insurgents turned Amar Mohammed, who has Down syndrome, into suicide bomber (courtesy: Sydney Morning Herald)
This week's election in Iraq may have been a time of celebration for most citizens, but it turned into horror for one family whose handicapped son was turned into a suicide bomber by insurgents who strapped explosives to his chest to disrupt the voting process.
The victim was Amar Ahmed Mohammed, 19, who had Down syndrome and was said to have had the mind of a 4-year-old boy.
"He was like a baby," one of Amar's cousins told the Sydney Morning Herald. "He had nothing to do with the resistance and there was nothing in the house for him to make a bomb. He was Shiite – why bomb his own people? He was mindless, but he was mostly happy, laughing and playing with the children in the street. Now, his father is inconsolable; his mother cries all the time."
It goes on if you can stand to read more. Amazing that some people can still think of these horrible creatures as insurgents, or resistance fighters. They're scum.
