The AP says with a straight face:
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The U.S. Homeland Security secretary says she is working to prevent a possible wave of anti-Muslim sentiment after the shootings at Fort Hood in Texas.
Janet Napolitano says her agency is working with groups across the United States to try to deflect any backlash against American Muslims following Thursday's rampage by Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a Muslim who reportedly expressed growing dismay over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Look at how the AP tries to help mommy Napolitano: "a Muslim who reportedly expressed growing dismay..." Thanks for the possible explanation, AP. At least you aren't trying to spin it as a firearms accident this time. You and Secretary Napolitano stay focused on the real problem here: servicemen and women who might hate crime somebody in reaction to the shooting.
Me, I'm content to wait for an investigation. And if some drunk teenagers in Texas yell obscenities at a Sikh because they think he looks Muslim, I'll rest easy knowing that this kind of crime is right in Homeland Security's wheelhouse.
