I understand enthusiasm, but:

Also this past weekend, authorities detained more than 40 people because of fan fighting outside the stadium...

I attended belt-sander races in Bath, Maine...and I agree with your conclusion.
I don't know .... belt sanding can get pretty rough.
Yeah, it can be a gritty enterprise, but still, it's never descended to the level of throwing plumbing fixtures.
