Byron York got contacted:
Media Matters has taken offense at my statement yesterday that the liberal watchdog group is "an avowedly political institution." Not so, they say:I read that expecting that Byron was wrong -- only in that Media Matters doesn't avow anything. As in, "to acknowledge openly, boldly, and unashamedly". But they're calling themselves "progressive". Isn't "progressive" the word they switched to when "liberal" became a dirty word? Are there any "progressives" that aren't Democrats? So they do avow. Either that or they're moving on to a new descriptor. Lord knows their intentional misunderstandimating of the phrase "phony soldiers" should have shamed them into a name change.
Media Matters is not, as the National Review claims, "an avowedly political institution," but a nonpartisan, progressive nonprofit that is unaffiliated with any political party or candidate.
