Bigfoot

"Every family has a different carbon footprint,"

***Update: Welcome to visitors from Michelle Malkin and Tim Blair's Place. Feel free to look around, kick the tires, take your shoes off. (but if you break anything: you bought it)

Let's start calling Gore "Bigfoot" and see if it sticks.

The church of global warming is selling indulginces and they are called "carbon offsets". Al Gore has apparantly bought enough of these so that he feels his largesse is justified. Besides everyone knows that Al Gore has been likened to a tree in the past; perhaps this analogy extends behond his personality to his metabolism and he is actually a carbon sink himself.

He's using all that electricity to cool the place, since it gets so hot heating it with all that natural gas he also uses. Or, maybe he's got all those mules he used to farm with stashed in the basement and they're all watching "Animal Planet" on individual TVs.

Gore pleading he uses "Carbon offsets" to justify sucking dry the TVA is like eating a salad with your two Big Macs and SuperSized Fries and calling it a Diet...

The elephant foot is Gore's "carbon footprint" pre offset, so might I suggest an other picture to illustrate his "post Carbon offset" footprint?
The same elephant foot in a green ballet slipper, what do you think?
If I had any skill with photoshop I'd do it myself.

Typical ivory tower liberal. I'm not partisan, but these guys bother as much as the theocracy aspirants amongst conservatives.

Also, loved how DiCaprio told gore that he was "truly a champion of the cause"...Are they revolutionary Marxists now?

Of course he uses 20x the average electricity, he has to power the internet.

I'm doing my bit for the environment. I've had a fire in my cozy gas fireplace every single day since the cold snapped us in two. Don't know exactly WHAT that does for the environment, but whatever it is, I don't care as long as my puppy and I are nice and warm.

Hey wait - I thought global warming was a big lie. So why do conservatives care about Al Gore's energy consumption? It's all just a vast, left-wing conspiracy anyway, right?

And by the way, offsets are the same principle Bush used in Texas to get power plants to stop polluting - although he called them credits. So if it's good enough for that hero of the environment it should be good enough for others.

Even with his "footprint" Gore does more for the environment in 6 hours than the current administration has done in 6 years.

Well, (next post down) I said I don't begrudge his energy use. But Gore is like the TV preacher, admonishing the youths for dancing too close, while he cavorts with prostitutes, space aliens, and farm animals at the local hourly-motel.

Carbon offsets are not like indulgences. Indulgences were spiritual gobblygook with no basis in reality and no tangible effect. Carbon offsets, on the other hand, have a real, definite, tangible physical effect, on the atmosphere. The fact is, every one of you is responsible for putting more carbon into the atmosphere than is Gore, despite his utility bills and extensive travel.

We conservatives don't care about Gore's footprint, we care about his hypocrisy. A person constantly using drugs is not the most credible person to have as an anti-drug spokesman. Even a liberal should understand that.

You people fail to understand that Gore is not a hypocrite. He purchases green power. He takes actions to insure that he puts no carbon whatsoever into the atmosphere. He is, in fact, doing far more than almost everyone else to forestall global warming, and that's regardless of what his (green) electricity bill is.

Um... not. You've swallowed the official line, but it's not quite true.

Bigfoot Al's power from Nashville Electric isn't any greener than anyone else's on Nashville Electric. This is his Nashville Electric bill, not a bill from some "green" power company. No matter how much he's paying in dubious "carbon credits" (or more accurately, no matter how much the company he owns ... purchases on his behalf), the fact that his huge estate uses so electricity means that he is, in fact, pumping way more CO2 into the air today than most people to whom he preaches cutting back.

Tell me where in the atmosphere (or anywhere else besides the pockets of the people selling the credits) to look for these real, definite, tangible phisical effects that carbon credits have? Here's an interesting fact. Russia has a copious amount of carbon credits to sell due to the fact that they got Kyoto Credit for shutting down old, dirty, Soviet Era factories after the 1990 cutoff date. So you can buy Carbon Credits (and many European countries do) from Russia, and not reduce carbon emissions by a single molecule. That, my friends, is spiritual gobldygook with no basis in reality.

And I love this logic: "Every one of you is responsible for putting more carbon into the atmosphere than is Gore, despite his utility blills and extensive travel."

Huh? Putting carbon in the air is putting carbon in the air. The numbers say every one of us, on average, put 5% of the carbon that Gore puts in the air in electricity consumption alone in just one of his homes.

Then there's this: (from the original article)

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

That's on top of the electricity bill.

Al invests in SOME green power -- about $400 a month -- although I'm not sure how much that works. That accounts for about 1/5 of his electricity use at that one home. His company buys his carbon indulgences for him -- likely from many of the same entities his company keeps in its portfolios.

And the icing on the cake, check out the Crawford Ranch.
