Phosphates

(not my dog, but my dog does this)

Does anyone else remember when you put this powder in the dishwasher and it got your dishes clean? Nowadays you put in the powder and it keeps your dishes company while they get splashed with water.

I think a phosphate ban is responsible. I'd write someone a letter if I thought it'd do any good; and if I could see to write with these curly light bulbs. Maybe I'll complain about it in an encrypted e-mail to a friend. That's the only sure way to get a government employee to read it.

Isn't it awful? I blogged last week about bleach - which no longer works either, thanks to the EPA. :-(

Two options that might help you:
(1) Tri-sodium Phosphate (TSP). I buy it in the paint department at lumberyard or home improvement store, as a degreaser. You have to read the label because some of them have TSP is big letters and then say "substitute" in tiny print. If my dishes are really greasy, I will add a teaspoon of this to the dishwasher powder. I also add this to my laundry periodically.
(2) (and this is what works best for me because of our water - I do this for every load without exception) Citric Acid or "Sour Salt" - it is cheapest on Amazon when you can get free shipping. I sprinkle a tablespoon in the closed soap well and a tablespoon in the open soap well, then I add dishwashing powder to only the closed soap well. Made an amazing difference in how well ours come out.

TSP. Be careful when you go to the hardware store, because there are products out there that have the letters "TSP" on the package, but are actually not TSP.

Best bet is going to a large building supply store. Then, a couple of tablespoons with every load of clothing.

one guy from Oregon--maybe Oregon Guy knows who he is--but it all started with one guy from Oregon who came up with the bright idea of banning phosphates from dishwasher detergent and ended up RUINING OUR LIVES
