The Real Jerk

It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin' on the porch with my family, singin' and dancin' down in Mississippi...
-Steve Martin, The Jerk

Steve Martin was playing the fool, going absurd for the laugh. Sure, Navin was just too out of it to notice there was difference between him and his parents.

I don't know what to think about a white guy who actually tries to play the race card with a straight face. Regarding Rahm:

A Vanity Fair article that excerpts a biography written by the mayor’s older brother, Zeke, talks about how Rahm and his younger brother, Ari, faced the issues of race and violence early on at Foster Avenue Beach.

“After a few days in the sun, Ari and Rahm could pass for African-Americans, which led to the occasional dustup,” the article says.

But Rahm and Ari Emanuel came away with cuts and bruises, not bullet wounds...

Being oppressed is a political advantage and Rahm decided it wasn't fair for him to miss out just because he was white. What a... well, jerk.

Now that we know that Illinoians can't tell the difference between Jews and Blacks, it's understandable why so many on the North Shore voted for Obama and so many on the South Shore voted for Rahm.
